I knew the day would come that my kids would need their own cell phone. To be honest it wasn’t something I was thrilled by. My kids having their own phone is just another step in them growing up and getting older. To me, it was a milestone that I wasn’t looking forward to and kept pushing off, but I also see the benefits of tweens having a phone.

As a family, we have been to Thailand numerous times, but every time we would leave I felt like we had missed something. Every trip was great, and we had visited every historic site and interesting attraction on our list and yet I still felt like something was missing. We always try to have an authentic experience wherever we go and I felt like we just weren’t completely achieving that when visiting Thailand.

I had a big to-do list for 2020, but this year has thrown all of us a huge curveball. Most of the items I had on my list I have had to table for now. Travel plans and other things I wanted to do have been put on hold. This had me take a closer look at what I wanted to accomplish this year that was within my control; things I could cross off my list no matter what is going on in the world. A big one that stood out was to sign up for life insurance. As I read this on my list the irony of the perfect timing of this task wasn’t lost on me.

With so much time on my hands lately I have been taking a deeper look at our family’s expenses and where we can trim down a bit. I realized our family was greatly overpaying for our cell phone service. Most of us signed up for a cell plan years ago and never give it a second thought. We figure as long as it works, then that’s good enough. But why overpay?

Our family ditched most of our things about 3 years ago and never looked back. Do I miss some things? Occasionally yes. Do I miss the time and hassle of having too much stuff? Heck No! For us the decision was sparked by traveling more and ultimately only owning what we could fit into four suitcases became the new ideal. I know it sounds a little crazy, but I have never been happier than I am now with so few possessions.
