A friend of mine posted on Facebook this morning a cartoon that said "Thanksgiving: is a day when we pause to give thanks for the things we have. Veterans Day: is a day when we pause to give thanks to the people who fought for the things we have."
As an American I take Veteran's Day very seriously. It is a time to reflect, and to honor as well as express gratitude for the countless men and women who have fought and in many cases died for our Country. As a mother I am always looking for ways to make sure that I pass on this understanding and feeling of profound gratitude to my children. Here are 5 Activities you can do with your children to honor and give thanks to Veterans on Veteran's Day!
:: Fly the US Flag- The US Flag is a symbol of everything our vets have fought for. It is a symbol of our desire for peace, and support of Freedom and the American founding values. When we fly our flag we are saying we believe in these things too.
:: Send a package from HOME- You know any active duty military that are serving away from home? Well what better way to express your thanks then to send them a letter and a care package.
:: Send a Thank you letter to a Vet- What better way to express your gratitude then to look up a vet and send a heartfelt thank you card. You can locate vets online with this nifty Vet Locator.
:: Support your local Fisher House- Do you know about the Fisher House Foundation? They are a "home away from home" for military families to be close to a loved one during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury. Help out today by donating money, food, or needed items to your local Fisher House!

Take flowers and small flags to decorate Veterans Graves- This is a great activity to not only honor those who sacrificed their lives to protect our freedom, but also to honor their families left behind. You can find your local VA Cemeteries
