As a mom of two my biggest strength to get the most out of my days and be the best mom I can be is sleep. Proper sleep can make the difference between a productive day and a terrible out of sync one. Without the proper sleep I have a hard time functioning as a normal human being and it’s nearly impossible to be on top of things as a mom. It’s also vital for my immune system and memory. Less sleep and I find it very hard to recall different things during my day.
We have a sleeping problem in our country and the American sleeping stats are staggering to see. Nearly 4 million Americans suffer from insomnia and the worst part is that most don’t even get any help for it. A mere 12% of Americans suffering from insomnia have been diagnosed by a doctor. Almost 72% Americans are missing out on almost three weeks of sleep every year, that’s a lot of time and a lot of valuable sleep lost.
Unfortunately we see a lot of people glamorizing less sleep, making it appear you can be more successful or productive with less. We always think of food as fuel for our bodies, but sleep fuels our bodies as well and you can’t expect to get very far without a full tank.
If you have trouble sleeping through the night, don’t just keep suffering through it go talk to your doctor. Sleep is vitally important to your health and can not only affect you, but your family as well.
