The Athenaeum: Luxury in the Heart of London

When I started looking for a great luxury hotel in which to stay while in London, I was given a suggestion from a friend to check out The Athenaeum. At first glance of their website, I liked what I was seeing. It is rare to see “family” as a tab on most hotel sites, let alone a luxury hotel. Some hotels claim to be family friendly, but you can be left wondering, “What does that really mean?” With Athenaeum, it’s clear from their site what they provide and how they can make your family vacation even better.

One of the first things I noticed was that they have a kids’ concierge. Yes, you read that right, a kids’ concierge! As soon as I saw that, I knew not only was The Athenaeum family friendly, but they were kid friendly. Believe me when I say there is a difference. Welcoming kids with open arms and providing them with their own amenities is not something commonly found.

Their Kids' Concierge will ask what your children love to read, watch, and eat – and they’ll do their best to stock up, ready for when you arrive. The kids' Concierge will greet you when you arrive and continue to be around throughout your stay. Need a late night mercy dash for anything? Fancy a family cycle through the Royal Parks or hiring a boat on the Serpentine? A game of Frisbee or tennis? Want to fly a kite? They'll sort out whatever you need.
You'll also find a pre-ordering breakfast menu hanging on your bedroom door handle, especially for kids. It features yummy items, such as Nutella, peanut butter, and special children's cereals. Kids under 12 staying with Athenaeum can enjoy one complimentary breakfast meal with each adult meal, ordered at the same time.

If you need a little more space for the kiddos to run around, the Athenaeum has wonderful family rooms and family apartments to accommodate your whole family while in London.

For our trip to London, the kids stayed home with Grandma and Grandpa, so it was just the two of us. We stayed in a beautifully appointed park view room, and it was perfect for a couple’s getaway. I loved all the details in the room; somehow, they manage to even include décor with a little whimsy. I had a case next to my side of the bed with little soldiers and guards in it. I loved it!

I love that Athenaeum is in the heart of London. You are just minutes away from Buckingham Palace and other amazing sites. I would highly suggest you book a park view room. It’s well worth it. The rooms have a sitting area where you can look over Green Park. In the morning, my husband and I would just sit, drinking our morning coffee and enjoying the view. It really added to our stay.

My stay was short, and I didn’t have time to check out some of the other amenities, but here are a few things you will want to check out during your stay with Athenaeum:

:: Athenaeum Spa – You can view spa experiences here.
:: Restaurant and Bar – They are currently working on making their restaurant and bar even better, and you can expect construction to be done toward the end of April. They have made sure to have this affect the guests as minimally as possible.
:: Kids’ Concierge – Check out more about a kid friendly stay here.
:: Athenaeum Apartments – Click here to see the different apartment options.
