*NEWS* Internet On Strike! Please Help!

January 2012

Today you might see a lot of sites on strike Wikipedia has gone “black” and shut down for the day.

Wikipedia and other sites are publicly protesting and shutting down today because of two bills before Congress, known as the Protect IP Act (PIPA) in the Senate and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the House.

These bills would censor the Web and impose harmful regulations on American business. Millions of Internet users and entrepreneurs already oppose SOPA and PIPA.

It would give the government the right to shut down and arrest website owners that they feel are in violation of any copy right issues.

And since the internet is one big place of sharing information, this could potentially affect anyone with a website.

Fighting online piracy is important. The most effective way to shut down pirate websites is through targeted legislation that cuts off their funding. There’s no need to make American social networks, blogs and search engines censor the Internet or undermine the existing laws that have enabled the Web to thrive, creating millions of U.S. jobs.

Mamas spot will not be shutting down today, but I have signed a petition to try to stop this and I would ask that you do the same.

Thank you!

*NEWS* Could Twinkies And Wonder Bread Be Gone Forever?

January 2012

Easy

This last week Hostess Brands Inc, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Hostess filed for bankruptcy almost two years ago and had emerged from it last September.

Once in bankruptcy court, the maker of Twinkies and Wonder Bread will try to reduce debt and renegotiate labor contracts.

Hostess, carries over $860 million in debt, and they employ over 19,000 people.

Hostess is the largest wholesale baker and distributor of fresh bakery products in the United States and they could be gone soon.

Rising labor costs and increased competition has made it increasingly hard.

But longer term, the 87-year-old company has a bigger problem: health-conscious Americans favor yogurt and energy bars over the dessert cakes and white bread they devoured 30 years ago.

Last year, 36 percent of Americans ate white bread in their homes, down from 54 percent in 2000.

Meanwhile, about 54 percent ate wheat bread, up from 43 percent in 2000.

Consumption of healthy snacks is growing, too. About 32 percent of Americans ate yogurt at least once in two weeks in 2011, for instance, up from 18 percent in 2000.

We're less likely to be snacking on items that we shouldn't be snacking on.

Whether you eat healthy or not, can you imagine a world without Wonder bread or Twinkies?

*NEWS* Apple 1st generation Ipod Nano recall! Get a new 6th generation for FREE!

January 2012

Easy

If you own an 1st generation Ipod Nano today is your lucky day!

Apple has a recall on certain 1st generation Nano’s!

Apple has determined that, in very rare cases, the battery in the iPod nano (1st generation) may overheat and pose a safety risk. Affected iPod nanos were sold between September 2005 and December 2006.

This issue has been traced to a single battery supplier that produced batteries with a manufacturing defect. While the possibility of an incident is rare, the likelihood increases as the battery ages.

Apple recommends that you stop using your iPod nano (1st gen) and follow the process noted here to order a replacement unit, free of charge.

If you have one of these, you will receive a new 6th generation Ipod Nano as a replacement!

Thanks A Thrifty Mom!
